About the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension
The KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension connects the Downtown Main Street starter-line to Kansas City’s Riverfront. The 0.7-mile extension begins at 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard in the River Market, crosses the existing Grand Boulevard Bridge, and ends near the midpoint of Berkley Riverfront — about a 5-minute walk to the KC Current stadium. When this streetcar extension is complete, the entire KC Streetcar system, which includes the Main Street Extension, will stretch nearly 6.5 miles, connecting the University of Kansas City – Missouri (UMKC) to Berkley Riverfront Park.
How is the extension being funded?
The KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension is made possible through a collaborative public and private partnership and funded with a combination of federal and local dollars: $35.2 million in federal funding and $25.9 million in local funding. The project partners are the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), the Kansas City Streetcar Authority (KCSA), Port Authority of Kansas City (Port KC), and City of Kansas City, Missouri.

Construction will officially begin March 2024 and is scheduled to take approximately 24 months to complete, weather and other unforeseen circumstances permitting.
Who is building the extension?
The project is being constructed by the Radmacher Brothers Excavation (RBE) team.
What impacts can I expect?
