The RS/Witec Riverfront Extension team has been making great progress on the electrical systems for the streetcar extension. With all of the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) poles now installed, crews have shifted their focus to attaching the supporting arms and brackets. These components will soon hold the high-voltage wires that power the KC Streetcar.
The poles, arms, and wires transfer electricity from the Traction Power Substation (TPSS) located beneath the Grand Boulevard/Berkley Parkway bridge.
Safety First
While the wires may not always look active, they should always be treated as live and extremely dangerous. These lines carry more than 750 volts of direct current (DC), a level of electricity that can cause severe injury or death upon contact.
Please stay clear of all streetcar infrastructure, especially as work progresses. Respect safety barriers, signage, and crews at all times.
Your safety is our priority. Let’s keep everyone safe as we move forward with expanding the KC Streetcar.
